Many years ago,I had the great fortune to teach and travel in Southern Africa. I learned about the work of Bishop Desmond Tutu to promote compassion and forgiveness. He promoted the spirit of 'ubuntu', a Zulu proverb which means “I am a person through other people. My humanity is tied to yours.” This resonated profoundly within me and became a foundational part of my daily practices: Move - Create - Relate. When I am training with Hannah or teaching our students, or jamming with the stilt walkers, jugglers, hoopers, trapeze artists and other creatives from the "The People's Circus," I experience the intersection of all three - and it is genuine bliss. Art allows us to feel more human and to connect more deeply. It lifts us up and helps us heal.
